Estimating Bathroom Remodeling Cost

Estimating the bathroom remodeling cost for updates to your existing bathroom include several areas. These include the cost of replacement for major items such as sinks, toilets and bathtubs, showers, ventilation fans, contractor costs including labor, building materials such as wood, sheetrock, plywood and flooring materials including ceramic or vinyl tile. Cosmetic bathroom remodeling cost would include such items as paint, cabinets, mirrors, medicine cabinets, shelving, towel bars, tissue holder and mini blinds for bathrooms with windows.

Major Bathroom Remodeling Cost

In order to get a good estimate for major bathroom remodeling cost projects, it's important to have a bathroom remodeling plan in place. If you're working within a specified budget amount, estimating the remodeling costs is crucial. Determine the priority remodeling projects to be done first followed by the secondary projects then make a list of the items that will be needed. Also, if flooring or wall remodeling is to be done, measure the area so you will know how much will be needed. Go to your local home building store or go online and find the prices for the estimated fixtures and materials.

Cosmetic Bathroom Remodeling Cost

Even though cosmetic remodeling costs are significantly less than a major bathroom remodeling cost, it is still important to make a list of the remodeling to be done so you can estimate the cost. If you're able to do any of the remodeling projects on your own, it will help defray the cost for both major and cosmetic remodeling. If you hire contractors, even for cosmetic remodeling such as installing ceiling fans, installing new lighting, painting walls and ceiling, replacing faucets, replacing cabinet doors and hardware, grouting or repairing ceramic tile or framing out and adding a linen closet, the cost can be expensive if repairs are required or additional materials are needed that were not included in the original estimate.

Additional Bathroom Remodeling Cost

When doing an estimate for the overall bathroom remodeling cost and materials are part of the estimate, it is always a good idea to allow for more than what is needed. For example, if new flooring is being put down, once you measure and know how much flooring is needed, whether vinyl, wood laminate or ceramic, purchase additional flooring to use in case any tiles become damaged during installation and to have for future repairs. Having additional pieces for the future will ensure you can replace broken or discolored flooring should the type or color you have is no longer available from the manufacturer. If building materials are purchased such as sheetrock and baseboards, any unused pieces can be returned for a refund.
